Private Pilot Certificate
A minimum of 40 flight hours is required to earn a private pilot certificate. Our Private Pilot curriculum may be completed in 40 hours according to the minimum training required by regulation; however, please note that more time may be required to master some lessons. Your individual results will depend on many factors including your preparation for each lesson, maintenance (scheduled and unscheduled), local weather conditions, and air traffic volume during your flight lessons. However, all students that earn an FAA Private Pilot Certificate through EducAviation may expect the following:
Prerequisites
- Read, speak, write, and understand English
- US citizen or TSA approved foreign national
- "FAA Airman Medical and Student Pilot Certificate, Third Class" endorsed by a CFI authorizing solo flight, or acceptable equivalent
- 17 years of age (prior to course completion)
Ground Lessons
- Review of FAR/AIM, AC, NTSB Reporting, Aviation Weather, Airplane Systems, and Flight Operations
- ATC Towered Airport Operations & Communications
- Short Field Take-Offs and Landings
- Soft Field Take-Offs and Landings
- Local Airport Night Operations and Airport/Surface Lighting
- Cross Country Flight Planning: Filing, Activating, and Terminating with the FSS
- VFR Navigation: Pilotage, Dead Reckoning Calculations, and Navigational Aids
- Hazard Recognition and Avoidance
- Written Exam Corrections
- Oral Exam Preparation

- Review of Normal and Emergency Operations/Maneuvers
- Flight To, At, and From A Nearby Airport With An Operating Control Tower (w/ Solo)

- Flight To A Nearby Soft Field for Take-Offs and Landings
- Eight Night Landings At the Local Airport
- Dual Night Cross Country Flight
- Dual Day Cross Country Flight
- Round Robin Cross Country Flight to A Destination Previously Visited With CFI
- Round Robin Cross Country Flight to A Destination Never Before Visited With CFI
- Long Round Robin Cross Country (150+ nm) Flight Consisting of Three Full-Stop Landings
Solo (Instructor's Endorsement Required For Each Flight)

In addition to the lessons above, additional training may be required for students that did not begin their training with EducAviation. The CCFI of EducAviation must interview a new student that has already soloed but not yet earned his or her private pilot certificate. All flight lessons received by instructors who do not use EducAviation's curricula must be reviewed and approved by the CCFI to ensure that the student receives all training required by the FARs.
